Principal Dumas Earns Statewide Recognition for Fostering a Strong Culture

GILBERT, Ariz. (August 5, 2025) - Campo Verde High School Principal Tyler Dumas earned the Exemplary Principal Award from the Maricopa County School Superintendent's Office. This recognition celebrates principals who cultivate a thriving school culture, foster high morale among students and staff, and build strong ties within their local communities.
Principal Dumas credits the collective efforts of the entire Campo Verde High community for achieving this honor. "I get to sit in the principal’s chair, but there is a whole group of administrators, staff members, and people in our community, from our students to our parents, that made earning this award possible," said Dumas. "It’s really a result of all the work we've all been doing since the school's inception."
At the heart of Campo Verde's success is its deeply embedded mission: "Every Person, Every Day." Principal Dumas emphasizes this philosophy as the cornerstone of Campo Verde’s culture. "Everyone is invested in trying to help other people out. When you look to support someone, you're usually looking at how you can serve and support them versus how this impacts you,” he added. Dumas attributes the campus culture to a staff of "selfless leaders" who act as "force multipliers," all sharing a vision of caring for others and prioritizing what’s best for students and the rest of the school staff.
This supportive culture is evident in how the school retains its dedicated educators. Principal Dumas maintains an open-door policy, ensuring all students and staff feel comfortable expressing concerns or offering ideas, knowing their perspectives are valued and often lead to improvements. He also focuses on developing leaders from within, actively mentoring and providing opportunities for teachers to grow into leadership roles, whether in curriculum development or administration. "We're trying to build skills for them down the road," he explained, noting that the school takes pride when staff advance, even if it means they move on to new opportunities within or outside the school.
