CVHS Celebrates Senior Achievements and Declaration Day

Campo Verde High has spent the last month highlighting the amazing achievements and bright futures of our 2026 Senior Class.
On April 8th, we hosted our 2026 Copper Coyote Awards Night.
38 seniors were recognized for academic excellence and exceptional character (with a total of 6 freshman, sophomore, or juniors receiving recognitions as well). The event was a feel-good commemoration of how our seniors give us hope and confidence in a better tomorrow and shows how our campus seeks to see the strength that comes from lifting up our students and celebrating the unique and wonderful ways that the individual contributes to the betterment of us all.
Bourne of a desire to recognize the outstanding students of Campo Verde High School and their various accomplishments. We celebrate not only those who are strong in academia, but those who demonstrate exceptional character. Campo has heart; amazing individuals with supportive families, nurtured by caring and gifted staff who unite to make this school something more, something different, something better. When we started this event in 2023, we were only recognizing Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and Coyote Excellence awardees. We had SO MANY remarkable students and we needed to celebrate that Principal Tyler Dumas encouraged us to do so. This was the impetus for the Copper Coyote Awards Night. Over the years, we have defined and refined it to be just what we envisioned; something meaningful and personal, authentic and reflective of our campus values. The entire process starts and ends with our students and the staff who foster their development.
For many of these students, this is the first time they are receiving any kind of recognition. They are not the star athletes or even the most accomplished of our scholars, but often, they have found something they love to do and are noticeably good at it. It makes them feel seen and appreciated and is also something that our entire student body is invested in celebrating.
As a follow-up celebration, CVHS hosted Senior Declaration Day on May 1st – the unofficial deadline for seniors to decide on their post-secondary plans.
The foundation of this declaration event is a message of acceptance of all paths. Many schools celebrate “College Decision Day”, but that excludes those who are not on a path to college. Senior Declaration Day, instead honors and celebrates all student paths; military, trade school, workforce, missions, gap years, and college. We think it’s important for students to know that we understand that everyone’s path is different.
There were two parts of this celebration. First, we announced some scholarships (Dorrance Scholarship, Friends of the Library Scholarship, Highest GPA Football Scholarship, NextGrad Scholarship), recognized more amazing student achievements (CTE Honor Cords, Diploma Seals, Community Service Honor Cords, National Merit Finalists, High Honors/Top Academics), and officially announced the much-coveted honors of Academic Speaker and Coyote Excellence Award. In total, over 250 seniors were honored. Then, students headed out to the courtyard for the DEC DAY party hosted by Link Crew and Radiate clubs.
This event is an uplifting one where we can all reflect about the last four years; the growth in not only their physical maturity, but in their emotional and intellectual maturity as well – a celebration of the connections they have made throughout their time here. The event is streamed to classrooms and the Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors watch it. It defines the culture at CVHS and inspires future Seniors!
“This is our favorite event of the year,” says Kathleen Diggs, Counselor and Celebrations Coordinator at CVHS. “It connects us to the reasons we entered this profession in the first place! Everyone; students, parents, and staff, walks away with smiles on their faces and in their hearts. It is so truly rewarding to see the reactions of our awardees, their families and our staff. ”
These uniquely amazing events wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our Campo staff. First, for building meaningful and positive relationships with students (for submitting nominations on their behalf and supporting them as they make decisions about their futures) and second, for dressing up and returning to campus for non-paid, not-required “extra” events to support students. Their actions speak volumes about the heart they have for what they do. We also owe a great debt of gratitude to our students and their families for being such integral parts of our campus culture. We are so fortunate!
These celebrations reinforce a positive culture of personal excellence on our campus and acknowledge that highlighting what people are doing “right” costs nothing, but its value is lasting. Campo believes it is worthwhile to celebrate each other and has used the last two months to celebrate its seniors and create lasting memories.
The future for these soon-to-be Campo Verde High School alumni is bright and they are well-equipped to make their dreams come true!
