Campo Verde High School sophomore Astrid Westerberg has been selected as one of only 10 high school students across Arizona to serve on the Arizona State Board of Education Student Advisory Panel for the 2026–2027 school year. Chosen from a competitive statewide applicant pool, Astrid will represent the perspectives of more than 1.4 million K-12 students across Arizona.

The panel gives student leaders direct access to the policymaking process at monthly meetings, allowing them to research important education issues and advocate for their peers. By sharing insights from her daily experiences at Campo Verde High, Astrid will help ensure student voices are heard in state-level policy decisions.

Throughout the school year, Astrid will collaborate with student leaders from diverse school districts across Arizona. She will also receive mentorship from state education leaders, helping her develop practical skills in public speaking, policy research, and civic advocacy.

“As a parent, I am incredibly proud and excited for Astrid to step into this role on the Arizona Department of Education Teen Advisory Board,” shared Kelly Westerberg, a counselor at South Valley Junior High and Astrid’s mother. "This opportunity gives her a powerful platform to represent her high school and local community with thoughtful composure and sharp, constructive insight, helping to give voice to the issues that directly impact student learning."
