The Campo Verde Choirs are part of a thriving performing arts department.  The CVHS Choirs strive for excellence and and musicianship in our ensembles.

Our students are some of the busiest on campus, involving themselves in sports, student council, honor societies, clubs, and upper-level academics.  The singers in the choral program are supported by Mr. Flora, a terrific school leadership team, and great parents.

Our choirs take part in many different events throughout the year, including concerts, regional and all-state events, out-of-state tours, mountain retreats, and team-building activities.  The choirs regularly perform in local and out-of-state festivals.  With five choirs in the program, we pride ourselves on having something for everyone, regardless of prior choral experience.

In a high school environment where it's easy to become another face in the crowd, our students spend four years in the same classroom with the same teacher and the same group of students, forming lasting friendships with a great peer group.

Contact Mr. Flora today to find out how to become a part of the CVHS Choral Program.

About Me

Mr. Flora returned to the Gilbert School District in 2013 after working at Higley HS.  He started his teaching tenure at Desert Ridge HS and JHS in 2008.

Matthew is a native of Southwestern Ohio.  His parents are both retired music educators living in the same district in which they taught for over thirty years.  As for schooling, he attended The Ohio State University as a choral music education major before transferring to Northern Arizona University to complete his studies and fell in love with Arizona.  Matthew completed his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University in 2013.  He is also the choir director at Christ Church Anglican in Phoenix, Arizona.

His private voice teachers include Dr. Gregory Rike, Dr. Eric Tucker, and Dr. Ricardo Pereira.  His choral influences are Mr. James Gallagher, Dr. Edith Copley, Dr. Gary Weidenaar, Dr. Ryan Holder, Mr. Paul Mayhew, Mr. Julian Reed, Mr. John Pollman, Dr. Andrew Last, Mr. Frank Sargent, Mr. Bartlett Evans, and Mrs. Carol Flora.

Matthew's performance experience includes ensembles at The Ohio State University (tOSU Men's Glee Club and tOSU Symphonic Choir), Northern Arizona University (Vocal Jazz, Men's Chorale, Chamber Singers, and Shrine of the Ages Choir), and six seasons as a chorister with the Arizona Opera.

Apart from teaching, Matthew enjoys spending time with his beautiful wife, Elizabeth, and their senior Persian cat, Pappo.  He also enjoys watching movies, reading, listening to music, playing PS4, and following his Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Reds.
