9th Grade: This is a very exciting time for you as you begin your high school journey. The skills you learn in all your high school English classes are critical for your success in your other high school courses and your future. This class will continue to build upon the foundation of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills that you have already laid so far in your educational career. However, the specific focus of this year will be to strengthen your critical reading skills, expanding your understanding of the relationship between an author’s purpose and the tools he/she uses to achieve that purpose, and to widen and refine your writing skills, allowing you to compose clear and concise arguments, expositions, and narratives. This class will also focus on your ability to communicate both formally and informally through group activities and individual presentations.

10th Grade: The Sophomore English course is provides a foundation of reading and writing skills necessary for success in upper division courses. This comprehensive course examines the writing process for narrative, argument, synthesis, and analysis writing. Students will read a variety of nonfiction and fiction texts focusing on the development and progress of the individual voice in society. Additionally, students will acquire a repertoire of new vocabulary and grammar skills in preparation for standardized college admissions tests and academic writing. The ultimate goal of this course is to help students’ reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills develop in order to achieve college and career readiness.

About Me

My name is Cathi Harrison and I have been teaching English for six years. This is my fifth year teaching at Campo Verde High School and I absolutely love it here. I have also taught at Gilbert High School (9th and 12th grade), Piedra Vista High School in Farmington, NM (9th grade on level and honors) and Desert Ridge Junior High School (8th grade language arts). I am very excited to be apart of the Coyote family and am enjoying the school very much. I am also one of the Varsity Cheerleading Coach here on campus.

I am a graduate of Highland High School (class of 2008), so Gilbert has been my home since I was 15 years old. Before that, I grew up in Long Island, NY in a town called Manorville, very close to the Hamptons, in Long Island , New York. Although I am a New Yorker at heart, I love the southwest and don't have any plans to go back east. I graduated with a bachelor's in science from Northern Arizona University (Go Lumberjacks) and studied Secondary English Education. I am married to a wonderful man, name Rob. Together we have a cat, named Binx and two large doggies, Jake and Jeter.
