Campo Verde’s Valedictorian and Salutatorian are the student(s) who have the highest grade point average from the classes required to fulfill their 22 credit graduation requirement.  This process was put into policy when students decided not to take classes like music, art or PE, because the un-weighted grade would hurt their chances to become Valedictorian.  By using the current method of determining Val/Sal, students are not punished for pursuing their passion in un-weighted coursework. This may or may not mean the #1 ranked student in class will be the valedictorian.

At the beginning of the senior year, the students ranked in the 5% of their senior class are called into a meeting, handed a Val/Sal worksheet, and explained the process for choosing the Val/Sal in the spring. Senior students who were called up in the fall are once again called to a meeting the spring after third quarter grades have posted.  It is these grades that are used in calculating the last semester grade point average for graduation requirements.  Students are encouraged to work with their parents and counselor in selecting the most competitive courses from their transcript.
